« Wrong Number | Main | Fresh air commutes » June 27, 2006 Busily remiss I've been meaning to put something new here for ages, but as a new job has been keeping me insanely busy for the last whatever I just haven't had a chance to write anything considered. Add to that the fact that I'm having problems thinking of things people might actually want to read about, and it all adds up to one embarrassing shortage of articles.

Published: January 02, 2008 03:18 pm Christmas brought an unexpected blessing By PAUL LORENZ paul. lorenz@mcleansborotimesleader.com So there we were, on the living room floor on Christmas Day, playing Whac-A-Mole with our not-quite-4-year-old daughter. “Did you ever think you’d be doing that? ” someone asked laughingly a few days after Christmas. Well, no, I guess I hadn’t. Indeed, the challenge was not the game, which basically involves waiting for an electronic signal to bop a plastic mole on the noggin with a plastic mallet. No, the real challenge for my wife and I — both 50 — was getting up off the floor after the game. For those of you not familiar with the story, my wife, Joan, and I are adoptive parents. Abby burst into our lives in March 2005; she was just over a year old. She’s been THE focus of our lives ever since.

Book Review :: The Christmas Pearl, by Dorothea Benton Frank I love, love, love to read, so when you put a book in my hands that also has to do with food, well, I generally call it a winner! WHAT FADES IN MEMORY is not the fact but the feeling. I can call up nearly every detail of those Christmases like frozen frames of recollection: A sparrow, its feathers so fluffed for warmth it looked like a fat monk in a robe and tonsure, peering out from the ice-cased lilac hedge while I sat at the living-room window, waiting for my parents to wake.
